Epilepsy happens as a result of abnormal electrical brain activity, also known as a seizure, kind of like an electrical storm inside your head. And because your brain controls so much, a lot of different things can go wrong. You may have periods of unusual behaviors, feelings and sometimes loss of awareness.

Epilepsy is a sickness in which nerve cell activity in the brain is upset, causing seizures.

Epilepsy may arise as an outcome of an inherited disorder or a brain injury, for instance a trauma or stroke.

When a seizure is caused, a person experiences irregular behaviour, symptoms and sensations, at times including loss of consciousness. There are few symptoms between seizures.

Epilepsy is usually treated by medication and in some cases by surgery, devices or dietary changes.

There are multiple factors which can cause epilepsy, such as

a lack of oxygen during birth.
a brain infection.

Symptoms of Epilepsy

Staring continuously in one direction.
Temporary confusion.
Uncontrollable jerking movements of the arms and legs.
Body stiffening.
Loss of consciousness or awareness.
Breathing problems.
Loss of bowel or bladder control.
Breathing problems.

Treatment Procedure

Oral medicines called anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs)
surgery to remove a small part of the brain that causes the seizures.

a special diet called ketogenic diet that can help control seizures.
